Did you know that 40% of cat owners are secretly feeding a cat they don’t own? I love that there are so many lovely cat people out there helping kitties that aren’t theirs.
While Mr. J and I don’t feed any cats that aren’t ours, we know the kitties that frequent the area and keep an eye out for them. On particularly hot summer days we have been known to leave out fresh water, and even return the kitties to their owners (if we know them) so they can stay out of the sun!
The folks behind PetRescue have recently set up a new Secret Cat Society and are aiming to make more resources available to help the ‘Secret Cats’ become ‘Community Cats’.

You can head over to the Community Cats website for more information and to sign up to the Secret Cat Society.
I think this is a great initiative. It has an emphasis on community involvement and helping out instead of just surrendering the cats to a local pound/shelter where they are likely to be put down. Hopefully the result will be less strain on the current system, and more happy and healthy kitties!

Love this post … I don’t have a secret cat, but do have two not so secret cats! I have been guilty of feeding the neighbour’s cat though so count me in the 40%!
My mother in Law’s friend has a secret cat. The cat in question is a lovely orange Tabby that we have named ginger joe. He actually lives right next door to my MIL but spends half his days across the street at her friends house. She lets him in and feeds him and I am pretty sure he thinks he owns two humans.
Thanks Michelle!
Jessica – There sure are an awful lot of spoiled kitties out there! But I love that even though your MIL’s friend knows where he lives, she still takes care of him. :)
