Did you know that August is National Desexing Month?

National-Desexing-Month

There are many benefits of making sure your pet is desexed, including:

Health
- Reduced risk of getting cancer or other diseases of the reproductive organs.
- Pets generally live longer and healthier lives.

Behavioural
- Pets are less prone to wander, fight, and are less likely to get lost or injured.
- Reduces territorial behaviour such as spraying indoors.
- Less likely to suffer from anti-social behaviors. They become more affectionate and become better companions.

Cost
- Reduces the cost to the community of having to care for unwanted puppies and kittens in pounds and shelters.
- No additional food or vet bills for the offspring.
- Save money from expensive surgeries from car accidents or fights, which are less likely to occur if your pet doesn’t roam around.

To support National Desexing Month, there are a number of vets offering discount desexing. For a list of vets participating, visit the National Desexing Network (NDN) website. If you’ve been putting off desexing your cats because of the cost, now is the perfect time to get it done.

As well as the vets listed on the NDN website:

- RSPCA NSW is offering 10% of all desexing – or 20% if you bring in a voucher from your local Trading Post.

- The City of Bunbury (Western Australia) is offering subsidised desexing through participating vets in their ‘Desex in the City’ campaign during the month of August.

- Campbelltown city council (New South Wales) is offering a 20 per cent discount on desexing for cats and dogs purchased from the facility as part of National Desexing Month during August. Contact the Animal Care Facility on 02 4628 3044 for more details.

Do you know of any discounts that are not listed here or on the NDN website? Let me know in the comments.

RSPCA ACT does low cost desexing for low income earners.

And in some (very limited) cases no-cost.

Thanks Mardi. Has the ACT RSPCA site had a revamp recently, or is that just my imagination?
