Who can avoid the headlines at the moment about the swine flu? Thankfully, as at the time of this post, there are no identified cases of swine flu in Australia. Unfortunately, New Zealand, your tally is around 10, apparently.
While the government is happy to tell us how it will effect humans and what we should be doing, but will it effect cats? And if so, what are we meant to do?
Well, good news for the kitties amongst us, it seems they should be fine. While there is no definite answer because the influenza virus is capable of changing, there have never been any known cat to human (or human to cat) influenza transitions. Of course, cats have their own version of the flu which you can vaccinate against.
It’s important to remember, if your kitty isn’t feeling too good or has the symptoms of the feline flu, contact your vet.
If you want to keep track of the reported swine flu cases, there is a nifty live google map, ready for your ‘alert but not alarmed’ needs.
